Music sites attract Americans over 50 [9/28/2000]
Americans aged 50 and over visited music-related websites in the US.
Genres that were popular with the over-50 age group included music-entertainment, online retailers, and multimedia software download sites, with visitor numbers up 92 percent from June 1999.
The number of visitors (unduplicated) 50 and over to music-entertainment sites specifically has grown from 2,033,000 in June 1999 to 4,703,000 in June 2000.
The top sites for June 2000 were Real.com (2,736,000 visitors 50 and over), Windowsmedia.com (966,000), and others like Mp3.com (448,000).
Older Americans are also using online music retailers to purchase music. In June 2000, 4,355,000 people over 50 visited sites like Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, Buy.com, and Bmgmusicservice.com.
In June, 15,104,000 people aged 35 to 54 and 4,454,000 people aged 55 and over used a multimedia player such as RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, RealJukebox, and MusicMatch Jukebox.
