Online Shopping by Minorities Increasing Rapidly [3/11/2008]
More minorities of every demographic are shopping online than ever before. A recent study conducted by International Demographics, a syndicated research company, revealed the following:Asian Americans still lead the pack.
Asian Americans still lead the pack. Seventy percent of this demographic shop online; this is up from almost 56% five years ago. Almost 25% make at least 12 online purchases a year.
Following Asian Americans are Hispanics. In 2002, almost 28% shopped online; today almost 42% (exactly 41.8%) do. Almost a quarter make five or more online purchases a year. A bit more than 12% make 12 or more purchases a year.
Lagging both groups were African Americans, who as a group, showed a sharp increase from 2002 to 2007. Almost 41% of African Americans presently shop online. In 2002, only 27% did. Twenty percent reported making five or more online purchases a year. Almost 11% divulged making more than a dozen a year.
Overall, everyone is shopping online more, which underscores the fact that internet marketing works. From 2002 to 2007, there were double-digit gains in the number of adults who shopped online. In 2002, 44% reported shopping online. In 2007, 55% of adults surveyed reported that they did. Almost 20% made twelve or more online purchases per year.
