Why do Internet marketers geo-target? Isn’t it obvious?...maybe not.

One of the capabilities search engines provide marketers is the ability to segment buys by geography. The engines use the IP address to lookup the location of the connection to determine the proximity of a user’s location. While there are some issues with proxy servers and firewalls, it is a fairly accurate way of determining a user’s location. So, what’s the benefit of this and who should be using it? More...

SEO as a Public Relations Campaign

Recently I attended a luncheon where the keynote speaker was discussing public relations. At the conclusion of the luncheon I introduced myself to the speaker and stated how much I enjoyed the presentation and will incorporate several ideas into future services.

I explained to the speaker that I am the director of SEO for WebMetro and our company helps client’s remove negative press in the search engines with search engine optimization. The speaker was intrigued and asked how can an SEO service help with public relations and I shared a real life example. More...

Non-Traditional Display of Video Ups Engagement

WebMetro has been advocating video content to increase conversions for many years.  Based on the simple premise that you can educate and inform a user about your USP's more easily through sound and motion than through flat media, we began to not only advocate the use of video, but actually develop and deploy it over the past 2 years.  What we've learned from our efforts, and the results they have driven for our clients, is that the more integrated the video feels and the less traditional it is in terms of how it is displayed, the better your chances for success.More...

Online marketers working with multiple advertising vendors might double, triple, and even quadruple count conversions.  When a marketer uses several vendors to run campaigns like paid search, search engine optimization, display advertising, and email marketing, the same conversion might be counted multiple times across vendors. This increasingly common practice happens in many organizations who farm out isolated online marketing jobs to various agencies. More...

The Path to Good Design is Proper Analytics

I get contacted all the time by small to mid-sized companies who tell me they need a new website.  So I ask what seems like an easy question…..why?  I ask what is the impetus for the redesign?  What are you trying to accomplish?  What isn’t working?  More often than not, I get no answers.  Instead I hear how old the site, how the design is completely wrong, and how the new boss doesn’t like it. PPC Strategy: You have been empowered. Are you hugging the curves or asleep at the wheel?

2007 marked the year search engines began empowering a user to really start taking control of ppc campaigns – giving users the ability to truly determine where and when their ads were displayed. Unfortunately, not many have taken advantage of this and it is wasting precious dollars. I’ll share two specific tactics empowering users to take control. More...
