SEO Campaign Metrics - Beyond Rankings

While many businesses still focus on rankings as the key metric for an SEO campaign, savvy businesses have looked beyond rankings.  Today businesses are collecting, measuring and comparing the same campaign metrics they have gathered from PPC campaigns.

In addition to rankings, there are five key metrics WebMetro employs to define the success of a client's SEO campaign:  rankings, traffic, revenue, ROI, and keyword depth. More...

When Should Your Business Consider an SEO Audit

Today more businesses are employing a consulting service called search engine optimization (SEO) audits. What is an SEO audit?  An SEO Audit is a project that assesses the current search-effectiveness of a website.  The audit helps identify what needs to be done to improve the SEO campaign and how to prioritize those tasks in order to produce the highest and best use of your staffing resources.  As an SEO I've been performing website audits for years.  I started performing informal SEO audits with clients on the floor at conferences like Search Engine Strategies.  Clients would sit down next to my laptop and generally speaking within 15-20 minutes I could find 5-10 problems that were hindering their sites from being well ranked.  While informal SEO audits are helpful, there is nothing better than formally critiquing a site and preparing a written report.   Marketing, public relations and IT departments are finding that an SEO audit is often one the best investments in the website.  However an SEO Audit is not for every business situation.  Here are 5 situations when your business should consider an SEO audit. Is Your Website SEO-Ready?

Recently I've run into situations where business owners seem surprised by my statement that the SEO campaign is going to be delayed by at least 2-3 months as their website is not SEO-ready. "What do you mean my site is not SEO-ready?"often replies the business owner, "I've just paid good money to have my site built".  And so begins one of my heart-to-heart conversations with the business owner that the adage of "if you build, they will come" does not really apply to Internet and search engine marketing.  More...

SEO as a Public Relations Campaign

Recently I attended a luncheon where the keynote speaker was discussing public relations. At the conclusion of the luncheon I introduced myself to the speaker and stated how much I enjoyed the presentation and will incorporate several ideas into future services.

I explained to the speaker that I am the director of SEO for WebMetro and our company helps client’s remove negative press in the search engines with search engine optimization. The speaker was intrigued and asked how can an SEO service help with public relations and I shared a real life example. More...

Conversion Counting Conundrum. Say that 10 times fast. And then figure out how 4+2=3.

Online marketers working with multiple advertising vendors might double, triple, and even quadruple count conversions.  When a marketer uses several vendors to run campaigns like paid search, search engine optimization, display advertising, and email marketing, the same conversion might be counted multiple times across vendors. This increasingly common practice happens in many organizations who farm out isolated online marketing jobs to various agencies. More...

Importance of Latent Semantic Indexing in SEO

For some time now search engines like Google and Yahoo have been employing Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) as part of their search results.  Google started this back in 04.

While LSI is not a new search engine optimization topic, it is very important in developing relevancy for ranking, building out the long tail of search but now also for universal search.

What is LSI and how does it work?    More...
