Retailers Look to Challenge Colorado eCommerce Tax
In response to the recent passage of a Colorado law requiring all online retailers to notify the state of purchases made by Colorado residents, two major retail groups are poised to take action. The Direct Marketing Association in conjunction with the American Catalog Mailers Association is urging their members and supporters to donate to litigation efforts that will challenge the legality and legitimacy of the law which took effect on March 1, 2010.

Retailers Anticipate an Increase in Ecommerce Revenue and Investment
Research from the 9th Annual Merchant Survey e-tailing group show that retailers are readying themselves to spend and invest increasing amounts of money on ecommerce in 2010. The group reports 59% of retailers are set to invest somewhat more in ecommerce this year, up 23 percentage points from 2009.

eCommerce Retail Holiday Sales Expected to Rise 8%. Will Your Business Benefit?
The US Online Holiday Retail Forecast, 2009, predicts that eCommerce holiday retail sales will increase by 8% this season, totaling $44.7 billion. According to the authors of the report, Forrester Research Inc, this represents a projected increase of $3.3 billion in sales from last year’s online holiday retail sales and an ongoing trend of consumers utilizing the web for shopping despite the current downturn in consumer spending.

United States Virgin Islands to be Offering Significant Tax Breaks to eCommerce Companies
The United States Virgin Islands are already known for their gorgeous white sand beaches, soft breezes, and blue skies, but now the islands may also be known for the tax breaks they provide for eCommerce companies. In fact, companies that offer digital products or services using St. Croix based servers may be able to save up to 90 percent on their state and federal income taxes. This tax break will allow companies who now pay a tax rate of 40 percent to pay as little as 4 percent.

Online Sales Tax Bill to Be Voted on In Congress
Consumers have been doing more online shopping lately, partly due to the fact that few sites require sales tax. This may be coming to an end however as a bill is due to be voted upon in Congress that will force companies such as eBay and Amazon.com to collect sales tax on the products sold on their sites. Attempts to close this loophole have been in motion during the past 10 years; in fact, since 2003 similar legislation has been introduced in every Congress, but none have passed either chamber.

Forrester Research Recommends Buying eCommerce Platforms Over Building
Retailers considering acquiring new technology are always faced with the question of whether or not they should buy instead of build. Brian Walker, a Forrester Research senior analyst, believes that in most cases it is best for them to buy eCommerce platforms instead of build them. His argument is based on the fact that vendors have a lot more to offer now than they ever have in the past.

eCommerce - Consumers Are Finishing It Up on the Web
This seems to be the sentiment of holiday shoppers this year. A recent survey by the National Retail Federation showed that a bit more than 40% of consumers planned to finish up their holiday shopping by buying online. This is an increase of more than 5% from last year.

eCommerce Still in the Frozen Department for Big Chain Grocers
Big chain grocers still haven’t warmed to the idea of eCommerce. They may be the last giant niche yet to embrace eCommerce.
Data in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide shows the combined 2007 sales increase of merchants ranked to be almost $102 billion ($101.7 to be exact). Of this, the Guide reported that food and drug retailers only saw a modest 12% increase in sales by comparison, to $2.37 billion.
