Big-Box Shoppers' Faith in Economy

04/12/2004
It is important for retailers to have insight into consumer sentiment to get a better idea of what to expect from consumer spending, reports BIGresearch.
Considering this, the research firm surveyed 8,038 US consumers in March to find nearly 50% of consumers who shop most often at JC Penney and nearly 50% who usually shop at Target have confidence in the US economy.

What might the BIGresearch findings mean for online shopping? JC Penney might experience even more site traffic, as Nielsen//NetRatings finds JC Penney s Web site had over 1.6 million unique visitors during the week ending 30 November.

Wal-Mart, on the other hand, could experience the best online returns if shoppers increase future activity. Keynote Systems found in February that Wal-Mart s site is the most efficient of the leading retailers, displaying a response time of 7.76 seconds.
