Seniors online are not only window shopping and using email but 78 percent of adults 55 and over have made a purchase online.
In a study conducted by Greenfield it was reported that seniors are not only using the internet for e-mail and window shopping but are buying online. Actually 78 percent of the surveyed had already made an online purchase. The majority ( 95 percent) are computer owners and have an income over $50,000 ( 40 percent).
The most popular online purchases made in this group are computer software(43 percent), books (43 percent),music cds(29 percent),computer hard ware(24 percent), and clothing(19 percent).
Suprisingly drugstore items are not among the most popular items purchased online for this age group. Fifty-six percent of seniors said they were not very likely to purchase from an online drugstore. Only 17 percent actually said they would be extremely or very likely to make a purchase from an online drugstore.
Greenfields "Surfing Seniors" surveyed 1,265 web users 55+ over the Internet. Eighty percent were 55-64 and 21 percent were 65 and over.
