Technology companies that used the Internet as part of their business in 2000 experienced higher productivity
PricewaterhouseCoopers' 'Technology Barometer' reported a 4.9 percent rise in productivity among companies that stayed offline in 2000. In comparison, technology firms that used the Internet for activities such as selling, buying, advertising, and recruiting increased productivity by 13.4 percent.
A spokesperson for PricewaterhouseCoopers said that only a small number of the 369 companies polled did not use the Internet in their business.
Overall, 69 percent of companies said productivity had improved in 2000. Twelve percent reported no change, 9 percent decreased productivity, and 10 percent did not provide productivity figures.
