Online Marketing Statistics - 3 Million More shoppers

Oct 29 1999: The latest research from NFO Interactive finds that this season will see 3 million online shoppers convert to being online buyers thereby pushing the number of US households who shop online up to 27 million.

According to the study, "Online Retail Monitor; Branding, Segmentation & Web Sites", these window shoppers are typically net savvy, typically female (56 percent)and 55 percent come from households with incomes above USD50,000. Although they have not yet made an online purchase, they spend an average of 8 hours per week online and have researched an average of 5 products online.

The survey, which polled 4,523 online customers, found that price considerations were the primary reason people shop online. 80 percent of respondents said that price discounts would entice them to buy online.

Nearly 67 percent said that some kind of privacy assurance would encourage them to buy online, 24.6 percent said that the ability to return an item purchased online to a bricks & mortar store would be a key driver, and 11.6 percent said cited real time customer support as an incentive.
