The National Retail Federation today launched the Retail Loss Prevention Intelligence Network, a secure, web-based computer database that allows retailers and law enforcement to share organized retail theft information. Organized retail theft costs retailers as much as $5 billion a year.
Organized theft rings have been able to operate under the radar of law enforcement for far too long because there has never been a shared library of information on retail crime said Joseph LaRocca, NRF vice president of loss prevention. Through RLPIN, law enforcement and other retailers will be able to identify crime trends, which will help reveal crime patterns and will ultimately reduce retail losses
The RLPIN system is available to retailers, regardless of NRF member status, for $1,200 per year and for a one-time per user set up fee of $200
