In spite of the economic doom and gloom in the news media about our economy, there is a bright spot – the online industry. Following are some positives this medium brings our way.
A Tech-Savvy Leader: It’s often said that change starts at the top. With the election of Barack Obama, the country has elected the most technologically plugged in president the nation has ever seen. Counting on the trickle down effect, one can only surmise that this will be evidenced in his policies, rules, regulations, and governing style.
Customer Wants and Needs More Clearly Defined: One thing online marketing does is that it allows Internet marketers to parse data to get to the foundation of exactly what customers want. Over and over again, niche marketing has proven to garner better results than more general advertising. Better ROI means more ad dollars flowing.
The Value of Search Marketing: Speaking of ROI, search marketing is the runaway winner for Internet marketers. Those who learn to master this, and who go on to marry it with strategic thinking and analysis will be able to increase their ROI exponentially.
New Media Outlets Opening Up: First there was TiVo. Now, online video viewing is growing by leaps and bounds. This gives Internet marketers a new way to reach consumers with unique content.
Also in this category is social media advertising. Favored sites like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace have brought a new excitement to online marketing. Though it’s caught on slower than some other online marketing mediums, the fact that it’s growing by leaps and bounds means that even more marketing opportunities are opening up for advertisers.
The Cream Rises to the Top: In a strong economy, everyone tries to snatch a piece of the proverbial pie. Businesses are started practically overnight – all touting how much better they are; what experts they are; how professional they are; etc. In less favorable economic climates, the best businesses rise to the top. This means a better customer experience on every level – including critical elements such as price, service, and quality.
Better Display Ad Rates for Internet Marketers: For most, online advertising is more cost-effective than traditional advertising. With the troubled economic times, those who purchase display ads from online publishers can often negotiate better rates.
For all of these reasons, and quite a few more – it’s okay to be optimistic about the economy – especially when it comes to the online industry.
