1 billion people will be using the Internet

Last year, the US had 34 percent of the world’s Internet users, followed by Europe with 29 percent, Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) with 16 percent, Japan with 10 percent, and the rest of the world with 11 percent.

By 2005, Europe and Asia-Pacific will by vying for first place in terms of Internet users, while the US will trail in third place. Growth in Latin America is also expected to be high over the next four years.

The US will also have a smaller share of global ecommerce revenues. Last year, its share was 46 percent but by 2005, it will have dropped to 36 percent.
