High Times for Cable High-Speed

North America has roughly 11 million residential high-speed subscribers -- 7.6 million of which make cable connections and 3.3 million of which use DSL.
Kinetic Strategies reports that as of Q3 2001 there are over 11 million residential broadband internet subscribers in North America. Kinetic finds that there are 7.6 million cable modem subscribers and 3.3 million digital subscriber line (DSL) in the US and Canada (the remaining subscribers connect via fixed wireless and satellite).
Kinetic also predicts that there will be roughly 11.65 million high-speed subscribers in North America in 2001. eMarketer's Telecommunications Spending Report presents worldwide residential broadband estimates for the next few years. eMarketer is slightly less conservative than Kinetic, estimating that there will be 13.7 million high-speed subscribers in North America by the end of 2001.
