Households with Internet access, and one or more PCs, are more likely to rent VHS tapes and DVDs, buy pay-per-view programming, and pay $50 or more per month for cable or satellite services, a new report has indicated.
The findings have come from research conducted by Knowledge Networks/Statistical Research (KN/SRI) as part of the Fall 2001 "Ownership Report", part of "The Home Technology Monitor".
Compared to those with no computers, homes with two or more PCs are about twice as likely to have rented a VHS tape in the past month (64 percent versus 34 percent) and to pay $50 or more per month for cable or satellite TV services (31 percent versus 15 percent).
Additionally, homes with more than one PC are three times more likely to have purchased a pay-per-view broadcast (14 percent versus 4 percent).
People in homes with Internet access are 50 percent more likely to have rented a VHS tape in the past month (57 percent compared with 37 percent) than non-Internet homes. They are also nearly twice as likely to be paying premium prices for cable service (25 percent versus 15 percent).
