Will Satellite Serve as Supplemental Bandwidth?

01/22/2002
When "land-line" bandwidth hits maximum capacity, service could head to the skies -- Pioneer Consulting predicts that the broadband satellite service provider market will grow from $1.1 billion in 2001 to roughly $27 billion by 2008.

Pioneer believes that the market for broadband satellite services will grow significantly due to a rising strain on terrestrial bandwidth. Pioneer believes bandwidth demand will grow globally from 3,351.2 gigabits per second (Gbps) in 2001 to 98,883.4 Gbps in 2008.

eMarketer's latest Telecommunications Spending Report presents information from Northern Sky Research which estimates that by 2006, broadband access and networking through satellite will be worth over $7 billion.
