US Net users lukewarm towards broadband
04/29/2002
Internet users in the US are still reluctant to pay for high-speed broadband Internet connections, reports Reuters.
This is according to a new report from Jupiter Media Metrix, which estimates that just 16 percent of US households currently have a broadband connection.
A further 15.4 percent of households, are ‘somewhat interested’ in getting broadband within the next year, while the remaining 76 percent of households were either neutral, or uninterested.
A key reason for switching to broadband is that it’s fast and ‘always on’. Around 59 percent of respondents claimed that this would be a motivating factor in getting them to switch from dial-up.
However, most Internet users expressed a limited interest in broadband entertainment features, according to the study.
Approximately 26 percent of those surveyed said they would switch to broadband to view quality video, while 15 percent claimed they would sign up for broadband services to listen to audio.
