Google Adword Advertisers Can Now Bid by Demographic [3/24/2008]
Google Adword advertisers can now get more Internet marketing bang for their buck. Demographic bidding allows advertisers to do two things, based on the age and gender of the users: (i) modify bids; and (ii) restrict visibility. The details of the program were announced on Google’s Adwords Blog.
Google kicked off this program earlier this year, inviting seelcted advertisers to Beta test the program. Some other notes about the program:
Not all sites will offer demographic bidding. It will primarily be offered by those that already collect this type of demographic data from users, eg, social networking sites.
Google competitor Yahoo! responded to the announcement by commenting that it has offered demographic targeting to display advertisers “for a while now,” but that it has no immediate plans to extend it to its search marketing program.
