How to Correctly Use Link Building to Achieve Higher Search Engine Ranking
02/12/2008
While most internet marketers recognize that link building is an essential part of any
online marketing strategy
it is perhaps the least understood aspect of the industry. Hence, it is usually the last option to be explored when results are not as expected.
Outside links are as necessary to improving search engine rank as paid keyword campaigns. A few good, outside links can literally make or break an internet marketing campaign. Perhaps the relationship between link building and natural search is only fully understood behind the closed doors of Google. What is not in dispute, however, is that it works.
Since link building as an internet marketing strategy was born, there have been schemes to beat the system. Search engine companies like Google work hard to thwart anything that dilutes natural search results. This has contributed to the backlash against sites that buy links.
To achieve maximum results from link building, internet marketers must not only focus on building links, but on building “quality links.” In this case, quality is synonymous with relevancy and page rank. To achieve this, link to a specific page of relevant content on a higher-ranked site. Enough of this, over time, will improve the search engine rank of any site.
