Blogosphere Doubles Every 5.5 Months; a Blog a Second [8/3/2005]

The number of blogs has nearly doubled since March, with a new blog now being created every second, according to Technorati's State of the Blogosphere report, NetImperative writes.

More than half (55 percent) of all blogs are considered active, with a posting in the last three months, and 13 percent (1.8 million blogs), update at least weekly. The report identified significant growth in the U.S., Japan, Korea, China, France, and Brazil.

Technorati said the fastest-growing blogging services are MSN Spaces, Blogger, LiveJournal, and AOL Journals, along with several international-hosted services. The use of software such as Word Press and Moveable Type to set up blogs also continued to grow significantly.
