Hulu.com Proves How Professional Content Thrives Web Traffic
01/01/2009
Hulu.com was officially launched on March 12, 2008. And, it has proven without question that professional content thrives on the web.
In only seven short months, the site had 24 million unique monthly visitors. And, the visitors were coming back again and again. They viewed on average 10 videos a month. This makes Hulu.com the sixth most frequented site when it comes to videos viewed online.
Hulu.com Dispelled Doubts and Grabbed Market Share
The blogosphere had dubbed the Hulu project a “Clown Co” even before the name was announced. Now, many influential bloggers who shared this opinion are happily eating crow.
The site has grabbed roughly two percent of the online video market. While it’s far below Google’s YouTube, it is drawing advertisers. In fact, many inside industry experts say that the site has more draw for advertisers than major players like YouTube and could exceed YouTube advertising revenue by the end of this year.
While the site doesn’t share ad revenue figures, company execs do confirm that they exceeded internal projections.
What’s on Hulu.com?
Hulu hosts more than a thousand shows. From family fare like the "Family Guy" to cutting-edge humor shoes like "Saturday Night Live." Their content providers number more than 130 and include such industry giants such as NBC, Fox, Sony Pictures Television and MGM Studios. With a growing database of full-length films, the site has wide appeal.
At first, Internet novices like TV networks shied away from the Hulu model. Now, they’re embracing it more and more. With 2008 proving an impressive year for professionally created online video, thanks to shows like "Saturday Night Live", more television execs are hopping on the bandwagon.
The Future of Hulu
Moving forward, the site has plans to be more broadly syndicated across the Web; even to expand internationally. While rights issues will make this a cumbersome goal, anything seems possible with this popular video site.
