Saks “Fashions into Action” with Online Video [3/25/2008]
Saks, which sits at No. 47 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, recently introduced online video shopping to its customers. Aptly titled a “fashion in action” catalog, the voice-over narration virtually takes a shopper by the hand and helps them shop. The catalog features 17 contemporary apparel styles.
The video features an outfit, complete with accessories (handbag, shoes and jewelry). As the video model rotates 360 degrees, online shoppers receive a description of the entire outfit, complete with zoom-in, zoom-out effect on various features.
Three style groups are highlighted in each video: Shoes, handbags and contemporary apparel, which includes casual wear like jeans, as well as skirts, tops and dresses. Shoppers can purchase what they’re viewing by clicking on a “shop this look” link, which is beside each video’s window. Created by an in-house team, the retailer’s interest appears to still be in the beta stage. A Saks rep points out that the true impact of the video will be measured via three metrics: traffic, conversion and sales. Of those, sales will be the most closely observed metric, the rep pointed out.
