Internet use by college students in the US soared by 45 percent in August, as students returned to college after the summer break, according to new research from comScore.
Sites that experienced notable increases in traffic as a result included Columbia House, GameSpy, Vivendi, and Amazon.
Traffic to travel sites such as TravelNow.com, Greyhound.com, and Expedia.com also grew significantly, as did traffic to entertainment sites including Musiccity.com, Audiogalaxy.com, and mtv.com.
comScore also found that, although overall ecommerce purchases were down, sales at clothes sites, music sites, and stationery supply sites grew by up to 60 percent.
This research was carried out in conjunction with Diameter, a division of Doubleclick.
